Cameron Park is a $2.5 million transformation delivering a high-quality, inclusive and community-first playspace in the heart of Booval. Project Overview
Drawing inspiration from the character-filled Queenslander homes that define the Booval area, the playground features a series of play “rooms” branching off a central path, each catering to different ages, abilities and energy levels. Through community-led design and careful collaboration, the result is a park that reflects local identity while supporting playful connection across generations.
Design Process
Led by Principal Landscape Architect Reece Wenzel, the Cameron Park upgrade was shaped through meaningful community consultation and a strong design vision grounded in place. The team from Third Place Design was engaged to contribute complementary play elements that aligned with the Queenslander-style aesthetic and supported the inclusive, intergenerational intent of the space.
Working closely with our manufacturing partner, PARX, the team supplied a suite of play elements designed to enhance the park’s functionality, accessibility and visual cohesion—adding texture, movement and challenge in a way that felt both contemporary and contextually appropriate.

An Award Winning Playspace
Since opening, the Cameron Park Playground Upgrade has been recognised in the 2025 Parks & Leisure Awards, taking home the QLD Playspace Award (>$500,000) —a testament to the project’s success in balancing community needs, thoughtful design and long-term value. What was once a simple local park is now a vibrant, accessible and deeply loved gathering place for families, carers and visitors of all backgrounds.
Environmental Legacy and Community Impact
Cameron Park was designed to be more than a playground—it’s a welcoming, inclusive space that reflects local identity and supports community wellbeing. Fully fenced and accessible, the layout includes DDA-compliant pathways, seating and equipment that allow children, carers and visitors of all abilities to engage safely and confidently.
Durable materials and thoughtful design choices ensure long-term resilience with minimal maintenance, while shaded areas and open lawns support both play and passive recreation. As a community-driven project, the upgraded park now serves as a vital social hub—encouraging connection, outdoor activity and a strong sense of place for Booval families.

The Finished Space
The playground is divided into four distinct play zones, each connected by wide, wheelchair-accessible pathways. For younger children, the Qube Toddler Tower offers a multi-level adventure filled with tunnels, low slides and climbing activities that support imaginative play and early movement.
Older children are drawn to the Alderbaran Rope Climber—a sculptural, nature-inspired net structure that invites strength, balance and coordination through open-ended challenge. Additional active play options include a dedicated obstacle course, balance beams and nature-style steppers that support gross motor development.
Inclusivity is deeply embedded in the design, with the Inclusive Orbit Spinner providing accessible, social play for users of all abilities. The Wheely in-ground bouncer adds a sensory experience that welcomes wheelchairs and support needs, while the 5-Way Swing caters to toddlers, older kids and all abilities users alike.
Surrounded by shaded seating, open green space and mature trees, the new Cameron Park invites families and visitors to gather, relax and connect—making it more than just a playground, but a true destination for the Booval community.
